An Excel dashboard about the UK general election 2015

Hello Excel-folks, today I want to share with you a nice informative Excel dashboard that I created for the UK general election on May 7th. I focused on the main 7 parties (those ones that appeared on the ITV debate). See how the dashboard looks like in a few screenshots:

As you can see from the screenshots, there are 2 main parts:

  • The first one at the top that lists all parties and candidates, with information about them, including photo, logo, and twitter link.
  • The second one at the bottom, that offers the possibility of checking the main pledges for all parties, seeing all the polls results by many different sources, and see the previous general elections results.

Let's see in more detail:

Top part:

This is the part that contains the selection option for the candidates and it will display main information about the chosen candidate:

  • In the top corner we have images (giving it flavour) and image links to the main website for the elections and the wikipedia link.

  • Once the selection of a candidate has been made, it will display the main information as shown in the image below:

Bottom part:

There are 3 sub-parts depending on your selection. First you see a selection option for the type of information you want to display:

  • If Main Pledge is selected, it will display the main pledges for the selected candidate.

  • You can also select Polls:

If Polls is selected, you will be given the option to choose your poll source (all sources have been included from Wikipedia).

Once your selection is made, you can see a chart of the poll results. A box with the key dates is included for reference.

  • You can finally select Previous Results

If Previous Results option is selected you can now pick the year of the previous general election you want to see the results for.

Once the year has been picked, you will see 3 charts and a table with information about that year's general election. The first chart will show the share in votes and seats by party compared to the previous election.

A table with the main results is also shown:

And 2 charts for the selected party (candidate) are also displayed:

And that is it. Come on, download the dashboard and have a play with it.

Download the dashboard

To download the dashboard click on the following link:

To fully enjoy the dashboard I suggest to go to the View Menu, and untick Formula Bar, Gridlines and Headings (you can always add them back later on). Also for better visualisation click CTRL + F1 to hide the Ribbon and maximise your screen.

The dashboard file comes in protected format, however you are able to use it. If you want to receive the file unprotected so that you are able to check how it has been built, please send me a donation (minimum £5 please) in appreciation of my work and effort. To do this click on the following link and make your donation. Once the donation has been received I will then send you an email with the unprotected file.
